Abstract:

The Research Associate I (RAI) will serve as the database administrator and survey specialist and will have the opportunity to develop, hone, and use their database and data analytics skills in cutting-edge survey research and evaluation working with diverse, multidisciplinary, and cross-functional colleagues. The RAI ensures survey data quality through reviewing respondent survey data during the field period; and importing, cleaning, and transforming raw data using SQL, SAS, Stata, R or other programming software as appropriate. The RAI will also support questionnaire design, programming, and data strategies.

This position is located in San Mateo, California and will require a minimum of 3 days in office per week, or more as needed, due to the sensitive nature of the data.

This position is subject to availability of funds and to any and all restrictions contained in the contract or contracts that provide funding for this position.

Responsibilities:

Essential Job Functions:
Research and Evaluation Activities

  • – Collaborate with colleagues in carrying out data collection efforts.
  • – Review and monitor data collection plans.
  • – Oversee data processing and data systems for national farmworker survey.
  • – Develop and maintain database systems in Microsoft Access and SQL server.
  • – Create internal monitoring system, reliability and validity system checks for survey data.
  • – Work with IT staff to upgrade and maintain data security.
  • – Provide expertise in survey research and sampling methods including statistical matching procedures.
  • – Participate with colleagues in the development of surveys and other protocols.
  • – Assist in developing interviewer training materials and training protocols.
  • – Enter, clean, process, manipulate and analyze quantitative data.
  • – Conduct complex research and evaluation studies and designs including multi-site, randomized controlled trials, and quasi experimental studies.
  • – Provide expertise in inferential statistics, multivariate statistics, and multilevel statistical modeling.
  • – Provide expertise for both simple and complex analyses (e.g., Time Series, Growth Curve Models, Propensity Score Matched Designs and/or Regression Discontinuity Design).
  • – Conduct data analysis in collaboration with other staff or alone; apply sufficient knowledge of statistical procedures and statistical programming to work independently on statistical analysis.
  • – Contribute to data interpretation and publications.
  • – Write memoranda, e-mail correspondence, project documents, reports or sections of reports, literature reviews, and other written documents, in collaboration with other staff or alone.
  • – Contribute to preparation and production of reports and presentations to include graphics, tables, arrangements for printing.

Business Development Support

  • – Assist in the development of new business areas.
  • – Contribute to the development of proposals.
  • – Use specialized knowledge of a region or area of expertise to assist senior staff in investigating and developing new business opportunities through review of potential proposal requests, research for networking with other organizations, contacts and recruitment of subject matter experts in the area.

Logistical and Administrative tasks

  • – Manage projects or lead key tasks, as directed.
  • – Manage and help manage workshops for clients, as needed.
  • – Prepare reports, including writing, proofreading, creating graphics or tables, making arrangement for printing, etc.
  • – Assist other team members with formatting and packaging proposals and deliverables.
  • – Handle job tasks with minimal supervision, completing them in an accurate and timely manner.

Qualifications:
Minimum Job Qualifications:

  • Education: Masters’ degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Market Research, Math, Statistics or Social Science related field.
  • Experience: 3 years of relevant experience as a database administrator, and three years of focus experience in database management software and developing automated data processes.
  • Knowledge: Strong survey research skills and project management background; Must be highly adept at multi-tasking.
  • Soft Skills: Ability to communicate effectively, ability to work independently or work collaboratively with a team. Ability to work in fast paced environment with multiple deadlines. Must demonstrate initiative.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience conducting analysis in SQL, SAS, Stata, or R. Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Access, PowerPoint, CATI and CAPI software, Alchemer or other online survey software. Knowledge of survey methods.
  • Location: Must be able to report to our San Mateo, California office. JBS supports a hybrid work schedule.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Language: Spanish/English fluency (spoken and written) at native level required.
  • Education: Masters’ degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Market Research, Math, Statistics or Social Science related field.
  • Experience: Three years of research and evaluation experience; including two years focus experience as a database administrator, and one year of focus experience with statistical and database management software, and developing automated data processes.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience in implementation science and its practice applications (e.g., in replicating evidence-based interventions) is a plus. Proficiency in database development and management using relational databases through work experiences, SQL or SQLPlus. Familiarity with and basic knowledge of non-profits and foundations, community service programs and volunteerism.
